V) was a planned German documentation centre for expulsions and ethnic cleansing, particularly the expulsion of Germans after World War II.[1][2][3] Since March 1. Sichtbares Zeichen gegen Flucht und Vertreibung.[4] The centre will open in the Deutschlandhaus building, Berlin- Kreuzberg.[3][5]The project was initiated by the Federation of Expellees, who dedicated a "Foundation Centre Against Expulsions" to the centre.[6] This foundation is based in Wiesbaden, and headed by CDU politician and president of the Federation of Expellees, Erika Steinbach. The other head of the foundation was SPD politician Peter Glotz who died in 2. Since late 2. 00. Federal Republic of Germany, when the federal government and parliament passed a law calling for the constitution of a Foundation German Historical Museum subordinate to the federal government, which in turn shall hold a Foundation Flight, Expulsion, Reconciliation which shall take on the actual documentation in Berlin.[3][7] The project has been subject to criticism, especially in Poland.[8][9]"Foundation Centre Against Expulsions" of the Federation of Expellees[edit]The Federation of Expellees (German: Bund der Vertriebenen, Bd. V) is the German non- governmental head organization of various organized groups of German refugees and expellees. The federation is committed to document the post- World War II flight and expulsion of Germans[1] as well as other forced displacements, and maintains an exhibition for this purpose shown in changing locations of Germany.[1. To expand this exhibition and to find a permanent place for it, the Federation of Expellees set up the "Foundation Centre Against Expulsions" (German: Stiftung Zentrum gegen Vertreibungen, Zg. V)) on 6 September 2. Objectives[edit]The foundation Centre Against Expulsions defines four objectives: [1]To document the history of settlement, culture, post- World War II deportation and expulsion, forced labour, torture, and later emigration of Germans from various countries of Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe, in a modern museum.[1] The museum shall provide room for the documentation and "additional space for sadness, sympathy and forgiveness" in a requiem rotunda.[1]To document and to evaluate the impact of the integration of millions of uprooted Germans into the post- World War II German society.[1]To document the "expulsion and genocide of other peoples, especially in Europe",[1] arguing that "displacement, expulsion and genocide can never be justified, [..] are always a crime, contradicting human rights and carried out by following the archaic thinking of the bloody vendetta."[1]To donate a Franz Werfel Human Rights Award[1. Foundation Flight, Expulsion, Reconciliation"[edit]On 1. November 2. 00. 5, the largest German political parties SPD and CDU signed a coalition. One stated goal of the coalition is the establishment of a centre termed "Visible Sign" (German: Sichtbares Zeichen).[1. The Centre Against Expulsions (German: Zentrum gegen Vertreibungen, ZgV). Criticism[edit]In a petition initiated by Hans Henning Hahn, Eva Hahn, Alexandra Kurth, Samuel Salzborn and Tobias Weger in 2. German, Czech, and Polish historians, opponents of the proposed form of Centre expressed concerns the centre would "establish and popularize a one- sided image of the past, without historical context", and see the dangers of "de- contexualizing the past" and "ethnification of social conflicts".[1. German- Jewish writer Ralph Giordano withdrew his initial support for the same reason,[1. Steinbach against the latest personal accusations from Poland, which he called defamation.[1. Former German Foreign minister Joschka Fischer said "This can't be a museum of German war victims. Germans can't point fingers at others".[1. Criticism in Poland[edit]Critics in Poland oppose the idea of the centre claiming that it would equate German suffering with that of the Jews and Poles and will suggest a moral equivalence between the victims of war and their oppressors.[2. ![]() Marek Edelman, the last living leader of Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, criticized the project as nationalistic, arrogant and serving to realize political ambitions of the backers of the project. According to Edelman other nations subject to German expulsions didn't establish any comparable monuments, even as they faced a harsher fate than Germans.[2. The Polish government opposes the involvement of Erika Steinbach in any issues related to Polish- German history and at the same time supports an international net of centers dedicated to remembrance of totalitarian regimes and their victims called "European Network Remembrance and Solidarity". (verify)Cocaine, also known as coke, is a strong stimulant mostly used as a recreational drug.[9] It is commonly snorted, inhaled as smoke, or as a solution injected into a vein. Mental effects may include loss of contact with reality, an intense feeling of happiness, or agitation. Physical symptoms may include a fast heart rate, sweating, and large pupils.[8] High doses can result in very high blood pressure or body temperature.[1. Effects begin within seconds to minutes of use and last between five and ninety minutes.[8] Cocaine has a small number of accepted medical uses such as numbing and decreasing bleeding during nasal surgery.[1. Cocaine is addictive due to its effect on the reward pathway in the brain. After a short period of use, there is a high risk that dependence will occur.[9] Its use also increases the risk of stroke, myocardial infarction, lung problems in those who smoke it, blood infections, and sudden cardiac death.[9][1. Cocaine sold on the street is commonly mixed with local anesthetics, cornstarch, quinine, or sugar which can result in additional toxicity.[1. Following repeated doses a person may have decreased ability to feel pleasure and be very physically tired.[9]Cocaine acts by inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine. This results in greater concentrations of these three neurotransmitters in the brain.[9] It can easily cross the blood–brain barrier and may lead to the breakdown of the barrier.[1. Cocaine is made from the leaves of the coca plant which are mostly grown in South America.[8] In 2. It is estimated that the illegal market for cocaine is 1. USD each year. With further processing crack cocaine can be produced from cocaine.[9]After cannabis, cocaine is the most frequently used illegal drug globally.[1. Between 1. 4 and 2. Use is highest in North America followed by Europe and South America. Between one and three percent of people in the developed world have used cocaine at some point in their life.[9] In 2. The leaves of the coca plant have been used by Peruvians since ancient times.[1. Cocaine was first isolated from the leaves in 1. Since 1. 96. 1 the international Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs has required countries to make recreational use of cocaine a crime.[1. Uses. Medical. Topical cocaine can be used as a local numbing agent to help with painful procedures in the mouth or nose.[2. TAC is one such formulation used for pediatrics. Cocaine was historically useful as a topical anesthetic in eye and nasal surgery, although it is now predominantly used for nasal and lacrimal duct surgery. The major disadvantages of this use are cocaine's intense vasoconstrictor activity and the potential for cardiovascular toxicity. Cocaine has since been largely replaced in Western medicine by synthetic local anesthetics such as benzocaine, proparacaine, lidocaine, and tetracaine though it remains available for use if specified. If vasoconstriction is desired for a procedure (as it reduces bleeding), the anesthetic is combined with a vasoconstrictor such as phenylephrine or epinephrine. In Australia it is currently[when?] prescribed for use as a local anesthetic for conditions such as mouth and lung ulcers.[citation needed] Some ENT specialists occasionally use cocaine within the practice when performing procedures such as nasal cauterization. In this scenario dissolved cocaine is soaked into a ball of cotton wool, which is placed in the nostril for the 1. Even when used this way, some of the used cocaine may be absorbed through oral or nasal mucosa and give systemic effects.[citation needed] An alternative method of administration for ENT surgery is mixed with adrenaline and sodium bicarbonate, as Moffett's solution. Recreational. Cocaine is a powerful nervous system stimulant.[2. Its effects can last from fifteen or thirty minutes to an hour. The duration of cocaine's effects depends on the amount taken and the route of administration.[2. Cocaine can be in the form of fine white powder, bitter to the taste. When inhaled or injected, it causes a numbing effect. Crack cocaine is a smokeable form of cocaine made into small "rocks" by processing cocaine with sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) and water.[citation needed]Cocaine increases alertness, feelings of well- being and euphoria, energy and motor activity, feelings of competence and sexuality. Cocaine's stimulant effects are similar to that of amphetamine, however, these effects tend to be much shorter lasting and more prominent.[citation needed]Oral. A spoon containing baking soda, cocaine, and a small amount of water. Used in a "poor- man's" crack- cocaine production. Many users rub the powder along the gum line, or onto a cigarette filter which is then smoked, which numbs the gums and teeth – hence the colloquial names of "numbies", "gummers", or "cocoa puffs" for this type of administration. This is mostly done with the small amounts of cocaine remaining on a surface after insufflation (snorting). Another oral method is to wrap up some cocaine in rolling paper and swallow (parachute) it. This is sometimes called a "snow bomb."[citation needed]Coca leaf. Coca leaves are typically mixed with an alkaline substance (such as lime) and chewed into a wad that is retained in the mouth between gum and cheek (much in the same as chewing tobacco is chewed) and sucked of its juices. The juices are absorbed slowly by the mucous membrane of the inner cheek and by the gastrointestinal tract when swallowed. Alternatively, coca leaves can be infused in liquid and consumed like tea. Ingesting coca leaves generally is an inefficient means of administering cocaine. Advocates of the consumption of the coca leaf state that coca leaf consumption should not be criminalized as it is not actual cocaine, and consequently it is not properly the illicit drug.[citation needed]Because cocaine is hydrolyzed and rendered inactive in the acidic stomach, it is not readily absorbed when ingested alone. Only when mixed with a highly alkaline substance (such as lime) can it be absorbed into the bloodstream through the stomach. The efficiency of absorption of orally administered cocaine is limited by two additional factors. First, the drug is partly catabolized by the liver. Second, capillaries in the mouth and esophagus constrict after contact with the drug, reducing the surface area over which the drug can be absorbed. Nevertheless, cocaine metabolites can be detected in the urine of subjects that have sipped even one cup of coca leaf infusion. Therefore, this is an actual additional form of administration of cocaine, albeit an inefficient one.[citation needed]Orally administered cocaine takes approximately 3. Typically, only a third of an oral dose is absorbed, although absorption has been shown to reach 6. Given the slow rate of absorption, maximum physiological and psychotropic effects are attained approximately 6. While the onset of these effects is slow, the effects are sustained for approximately 6. Contrary to popular belief, both ingestion and insufflation result in approximately the same proportion of the drug being absorbed: 3. Compared to ingestion, the faster absorption of insufflated cocaine results in quicker attainment of maximum drug effects. Snorting cocaine produces maximum physiological effects within 4. Physiological and psychotropic effects from nasally insufflated cocaine are sustained for approximately 4. Coca tea, an infusion of coca leaves, is also a traditional method of consumption. The tea has often been recommended for travelers in the Andes to prevent altitude sickness.[2. However, its actual effectiveness has never been systematically studied.[2. This method of consumption has been practised for many centuries by the indigenous tribes of South America. One specific purpose of ancient coca leaf consumption was to increase energy and reduce fatigue in messengers who made multi- day quests to other settlements.[citation needed]In 1. Journal of the American Medical Association revealed that U. S. health food stores were selling dried coca leaves to be prepared as an infusion as "Health Inca Tea."[2. While the packaging claimed it had been "decocainized", no such process had actually taken place. The article stated that drinking two cups of the tea per day gave a mild stimulation, increased heart rate, and mood elevation, and the tea was essentially harmless. Despite this, the DEA seized several shipments in Hawaii, Chicago, Georgia, and several locations on the East Coast of the United States, and the product was removed from the shelves. Insufflation. Dil Leyla. Asli Özarslan. Germany | 2. 01. 6 | 7. Category: Vote for Change! A few years ago Leyla İmret became the youngest mayor in Turkey. At the age of 2. 6, she faced the difficult task of reviving her home town of Cizre. At the age of five she had to leave as a result of military actions in which her father, a commander of Kurdish guerrillas, was killed. Kurdish politicians in Turkey do not enjoy an easy situation and for Cizre, the ancient centre of Kurdish resistance, this is doubly true. With parliamentary elections approaching, in which for the first time in history the pro- Kurdish Democratic Party has a chance to succeed, Leyla and her family are facing an increasingly tense situation. Will Leyla meet the same fate as her father? Is there hope for the Kurdish minority in Turkey to live without oppression and open discrimination? Canan Turan · Asli Özarslan
